The Beauty of Reason

Me and my friends Todd, Adam, and Noah are planning to play what will be our second game of Nomic. (Yes, we're nerds; what of it?) This round will hopefully go better than the first, which sort of fell apart after a failed attempt at a coup, made by me, mostly to point out some loopholes in the ruleset which I had a hand in making. But that's not the reason for this post.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

In the course of getting this game together, gMail took our conversation to indicate my interest in a number of interesting targeted ads. In particular, one for Project Orbular, which raises some questions:

Behold, for example, the scintillating debate examples, such as one about file-sharing, and that on pornography. I'm certainly glad someone developed a method which "[o]bjectively solves issues on human value, fault, and other personal concerns," because those were really bugging me.

Bouncin' Around

On a whim inspired by some early-morning googling, yesterday I dragged some friends of mine to Bar Tabac to hear my new favorite gypsy guitarist, Stephane Wrembel. We piled into the little French-themed restaurant/bar just as the first set was ending, and ordered a round of Leffe (my draught Belgian since France) as we waited for the band to start up again.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

In fifteen minutes, the air inside the bar exploded with the chords and rhythms of gypsy music. If there hadn't been barely enough space to sit, I doubt anyone could have resisted dancing. Fingers flew from fret to fret, finding each note effortlessly, all the while driven onwards by the furious tapping of a washboard percussion section. During a winding transition through three standards, me and my friend were suddenly struck dumb by a glint of light through the air in front of his fingerboard as his high E string snapped under the pressure. We both watched in disbelief for a second as he played on, simply ignoring the space where his string used to be. My friend turned and mouthed the words "bad ass," before becoming once more transfixed. The D string went during the third set.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

The band told us later that their gig at Barbes on Sundays is the best in the week, so if you're a New York resident, make sure to go. If you're not a New York resident, move to a city with a real music scene, or at least consider a trip down for a show sometime.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

Tender Was the Night

Walking back through the streets of Nice, it occurred to me and Kiran, for some reason, that it would be a good idea to strike the poses of the mannequins in this window. A passing French punk girl shared her opinion of this with us, along with some sort of comment about how I was wearing tight pants.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

No, I'm Just into Canadians

I think we can all agree that the song "Promiscuous" by Nelly Furtado and Timbaland is completely awesome. But the last line doesn't make sense to me. She asks, "Is your game MVP, like Steve Nash?" Uh ... why, were you hoping that my sexual prowess is overrated because I'm white?telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

The Sound of Silence

I walked down the stairs onto the downtown Q platform at 59th street, where the train was standing with all of its door shut to potential passengers. Worried I might have to wait all of five minutes for another, I began running along the platform to find an open door, and had gone about fifteen feet when I heard a sharp sound right behind me, and turned in time to see the white charger for my iPod skidding across the platform and underneath the train. Although I needn't have bothered, I made the obligatory check to make sure that my iPod had in fact also escaped the confined of my bag. Defeated, I waited around the ten minutes it took the train to eventually leave the station before jumping down onto the tracks to recover my charger, and search in vain for my iPod, wrapped as it was in a dark grey Crumpler bag that wouldn't have been remotely visible in the shadows of the subway tracks.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

All of which is prefatory to saying that I've spent the last few weeks enduring the agony, familiar to numerous people our age who have faced similar fates, of iPod withdrawal. Commuter train rides are the worst; 50+ minutes spent recycling the songs stuck in one's head, without any way to satisfy the itch by actually hearing them. But then, my music tastes have become so arbitrary of late, the things I find myself pining for are Destiny's Child and Pharrell Williams, so I suppose I don't deserve anyone's pity.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

Feels Like Home

A while ago I noted mentally that I had once again, roughly a year later, entered a phase of reading fiction instead of philosophy. It seemed a pretty natural cure for academic burnout at the time. Only later did it occur to me that the first time around this was instigated by my finishing the second of two 80-page projects. Also, back then it lasted about a week in which I read half a dozen books that had been accumulating on my shelf.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

Now, looking back on the past four months of reading almost nothing academic in nature, I have to say it feels damn good to be flipping back and forth reading end notes once again.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

Rotations

As I lay on my back while the raft lazily spun in the middle of a lake, with the last of the Perseids etching occasional white lines in the black, I realized I don't see enough of the sky.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

Your life, in syndication

The worst part about starting over from a harddrive failure is having to recreate all the little systems you're used to working with. It's as if you moved your arms from their perfect posture during a midday nap and no matter how hard you try, nothing will feel as comfortable. Gmail could ease this misery, I suppose, if I didn't have to redownload all the archives on their server into Thunderbird so that I have all my correspondences on my laptop - I like to think of myself as a digital packrat.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

Gmail's behavior through all this has been admirable, if somewhat odd. It started by downloading some 200 messages twice each, terminating somewhere around August 2004. Since then, it's just been pulling a few messages at a time off the server, in chronological order, so that the past two years of my life have been trickling into my inbox for the past hour. It's a bit disconcerting to see this digital representation of myself on display, all the professors I wrote to, or movies I rented through Netflix. A few minutes ago, I applied to grad school all over again, only to be rejected a few minutes later. I'll be graduating shortly, after which it's off to Chicago all over again, until I move everything into it's proper folder and forget about it once more.telecharger aimbot cod v1.5

Forced Moves

It's unfortunate that one of the only ways I can motivate myself to do things is by putting myself in impossible situations, like waiting until the day before to write a paper, or a week before I'm homeless to find an apartment. In this spirit, my first blog post in a month is to announce my participation in a weblog contest which will require me to post daily. As the L-train pointed out, "i was surprised to find your name since, well, you haven't posted anything less than on a bi-monthly basis in a year." Fair enough. The only question now is whether I'd be better off trying to work myself into by posting more frequently between now and the 21st, or whether I risk burning myself out early that way.
